I've Been Everywhere Tour 2000
The folks at TeamStrange really out did themselvs with this unique rally. They took an old country/western tune and turned it into a summer full of riding. The object was to collect photos of city limits signs or post offices from as many of the places in the song as you coud find. The fun part was that any place with the same name as in the song counted. Fargo is in North Dakota, right? Yep, but there is one in Ohio too. Many of the smaller towns don't even show up on a regular atlas. Computerized mappping programs came in handy. But some of the locations they listed didn't have a sign or post office to get a picture of. Then you were out of luck and had to find another location that had a good picture available. Confused yet? I was more than once.
Most of the 53 locations I collected were done on two weekend rides. The first covered 2400+ miles on a 3 day loop out to Pennsylvaina then down through the Smokie Mountains gaining me 20 sites. The other big ride netted 17 sies and covered 2700+ miles in 2 days southwest through Oklahoma and back up to Minnesota. The balance were fairly close to home or got picked up on the way to someplace else. I even got the family involved in a few of the local rides.
Here are lyrics to the song along with links to the pictures taken.
Written by Geoff Mack
I was totin' my pack
Along the dusty Winnemucca road
When along came a semi
With a high and canvas covered load
If you're going to Winnemucca, Mack
With me you can ride
So I climbed into the cab
And then I settled down inside
He asked me if I'd seen a road
With so much dust and sand
And I said,
Listen, Bud I've traveled every road in this here land
(Chorus)
I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
'Cross the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel, I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere
Been to Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota,
Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow, Sarasota
Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa, Oklahoma
Tampa, Panama, Mattawa, La Paloma
Bangor, Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo
Tocopilla, Barranquilla, and Padilla, I'm a killer
(Repeat Chorus)
